Summer Hair Care

Most people change up their skin care routines based on the seasons (heavier moisturizers in the winter, heavier SPF in the summer), but should you also change up your hair care routine based on the seasons?

The answer is YES!

Summer hair care has different requirements based on environmental factors like sun, chlorine, and wind. Your best defence—SPF, coconut water, and Vitamin E.

SPF For Hair

You wouldn’t dream of going out without sunscreen in the summer, and believe it or not, your hair also needs sunscreen! UV rays, which are damaging to your skin, can also be harmful to the hair follicle. And don’t forget to also protect your scalp, which can be very painful if it gets burnt.

The Soleil Hair Care Collection by Kérastase nourishes and illuminates summer hair with a sublime UV protection. Each product is sold separately and can be mixed & matched.

To help tame frizz and protect hair with SPF, rub a pea-sized amount of Soleil Crème UV Sublime into your hair and head to the beach. Or protect colour-treated hair from sun with their intense conditioning mask, Après-Soleil Hair Mask. Perfect to use after you get home from a day at the beach or pool.

Coconut Water

Your favourite refreshing and hydrating drink, as it turns out, is also deeply hydrating for your hair! Coconut water contains fatty acids and lauric acid, which help repair damaged hair and make it stronger.

Add a rinse with coconut water into your summer routine, or use Après-Soleil Hair Mask, which contains coconut water to deeply penetrate the hair for unparalleled hydration.

Vitamin E

A natural anti-oxidant, Vitamin E has long been a beloved ingredient in skin care products for eons. It’s also great for dry, damaged summer hair, because it helps seal in moisture, reduces breakage, and protects the hair from external damage. It also helps with tangles and actually fills in damaged spots in your hair’s shaft.

You can use it by smoothing a few drops into your hair every other day or try using Soleil Crème UV Sublime leave-in moisturizing cream enriched with Vitamin E. When applied to lengths and ends, it prevents dryness and tames frizz up to 24 hours for a silky-smooth finish. Its ultra lightweight texture leaves a non-greasy feeling allowing for multiple applications on dry or wet hair.

Summer Blondes

It’s normal for hair to lighten in the sun, but if you have processed blonde hair, beware! Exposure to sun, salt, and chlorine can take a pretty blonde to a brassy blonde, very quickly.

To get the most out of your summer blonde:

Do not shampoo your freshly coloured hair for 2 days, it allows the pigments to settle. Don't worry, you can get your hair wet, but avoid pools or hot tubs, which are treated with chemicals.

Purple shampoos are your best friend when it comes to brass and yellow tones. Blond Absolu Bain Ultra-Violet Shampoo by Kérastase will keep your blonde bright and fight brassiness all year round, but in the summer, you'll want to switch to something more intense, like the Blond Absolu Masque Ultra-Violet.

If your blonde does go summer sideways, book a toning treatment with your Stylist, or ask about the L’Oreal Professional Metal Detox. It’s a three-step treatment to help remove harmful chlorine.

Protecting your hair and keeping it gorgeous during the summer isn't difficult, it just means shaking up your routine a little—filling your beach bag with the proper products and wearing a cute hat or stylish scarf when possible.
